 Samsung is a South Korean conglomerate that was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-chul. The company initially focused on selling fish, vegetables, fruit, and dried groceries to local merchants in Seoul. In the 1940s and '50s, Samsung began to expand its business into areas such as insurance, retailing, and textiles.



In the 1960s and 70s Samsung entered heavy industry by building ships and constructing plants for chemical production before becoming one of the leading companies in electronics with products like televisions, refrigerators, washing machines etc.. During this time period they also established international subsidiaries in Europe; Bangkok Thailand; and Beijing China. 


The 1980s saw even more expansion with their first VCR’s being released along with air conditioners; mobile phones were created under their subsidiary brand SAMSUNG Electronics Co Ltd (SEC) which eventually became one of dominant force’s in technology today with products ranging from cellphones/smartphones; laptops/desktops computers; semiconductors etc.. 


The 1990's heralded further success for Samsung when they launched their first computer monitor as well as their first CD-ROM Drive . In 1998 Samsung purchased the Astec Electronics Corporation which allowed them to gain access to newer technologies such as Cmos image sensors allowing them to enhance digital imaging capabilities within devices like cameras and camcorders.   They then went on to become a major supplier for consumer electronics including television sets , mobile phones , laptops , tablets etc..Their most recent success story has been around Smart Homes where users can control all aspects of home automation from lights to temperature using voice activation or a specific app .       


Today Samsung operates within numerous sectors including consumer electronics; technology services ; healthcare / medical research ; automotive engineering ; venture capital investments ; real estate development ; food & beverage industries plus many more catering not only locally but internationally too  making it the largest conglomerate group in South Korea whose estimated value exceeds $300 billion US Dollars worldwide

Samsung is a South Korean multinational conglomerate and is one of the largest companies in the world. It was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-chul, who started his own trading company selling noodles and other goods in Su-dong near Daegu city. Originally known as Samsung Sanghoe, it became Samsung Electric Industries with the merger of two companies: Samsung Sangho, founded by Lee Byung-Chul, andJae-yong Lee's Hansol Group. 



The company made electronics such as televisions and refrigerators as well as weapons during Korea War (1950–1953). In 1969, Shin Kyuk-ho founded Lucky GoldStar (LGS) which later evolved into LG Electronics. LGS branched out into automobiles with new entity called LG Motors to make vehicles under Kia brand name while Samsung continued its core electronics business. 


In 1980s, Samsung’s focus shifted to semiconductors which eventually led to mobile phones. This segment has grown exponentially ever since becoming its most profitable sector today. From 2000s onwards, the company diversified its product portfolio even more with new ventures in consumer electronics industry such as digital TVs & cameras; home appliances like washing machines & vacuum cleaners; medical equipment; telecom systems & services etc. In recent years it has also become one of the leading players in global smartphone market pioneering devices powered by Android operating system from Google Inc., Tizen platform from Linux Foundation etc., not just for itself but for several other mobile device vendors across the world including Apple Inc.'s iPhones manufactured through contract manufacturers like Foxconn Technology Co Ltd based out of China & Taiwan. The firm also produces various memory chips used commonly personal computers (PCs), laptops etc., again both directly under its branding or indirectly via sub – contractors such as Hynix Semiconductor Inc.; Micron Technology Inc.; Kingston Technology Corp., etc
